Yup! Summer is here to stay … till fall. Genius! Anyway, now is that time of the year when a lot of people will travel, some to see family and friends, some to visit exotic places, some to lay down in the beach under a straw umbrella drinking piña coladas.
Whatever is going to be that you are going to do, don’t forget to bring your camera along for the ride. I know a lot of people nowadays are happy traveling with just their phone. Phones have taken such an important place in our lives, not only you can call people, you can text, take photos, go online, listen music, share your life as you go on social media, read a book and bake cupcakes. Awesome shit!
I gotta recognize I totally underuse my phone. Call, text, go online, use a bit of social media, a bit of music (Android doesn’t like iTunes), and some occasional snap. But I really don’t like it as a photographic tool. Ergonomics are not good compared with any of my cameras, resolution … don’t even get me started, and yes we all have seen these huge billboards with photos “taken with an iPhone”, what they don’t say is all the edition software they have to use to enlarge them, and also to print a billboard is not that you need the most perfect definition on an image. Don’t misunderstand me, phone cameras have come a long way but the sensor size is the sensor size and there is nothing you can do about it.
Ok, ok. I will stop ranting. Just remember to bring your camera with you and enjoy taking photos. You don’t need to share everything you snap. Try to look less at the screen of your camera and look more at the world that surround you. Hear, smell, interact with real people that doesn’t hide behind a screen. Or don’t! Just lay down in the sand. But don’t look at your phone. Look in front of you. Real life is constantly unfolding in front of your eyes. What a precious thing it is! Share real quality time with those who love you. Live like it was 1982 all over again.
